The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta is to transform the lives of children through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with caring, well trained volunteers.
Success Story
Candice and Charlene have been matched for almost two years starting September 30, 2006. At the time of the match meeting, Candice was a talkative 13 year old who was looking for a “cool” Big Sister to hang out with and confide in. Charlene at the beginning of the match was a recent college graduate and wanted to volunteer her time towards teaching a young girl the importance of education and assist in their social development toward productive and positive people. Candice’s mother was impressed with Charlene’s sincerity towards education and values, so this seemed like a perfect match.
Since the beginning of the match, Candice and Charlene have taken time to get to know each other and both have benefitted in many ways from their wonderful relationship. Currently, both do volunteer work together to give back to the community. They speak to each other several times a week and Charlene is helping Candice look for a part-time job. With Charlene’s help, Candice will be going to the 10th grade with a B+ average. She plans to go to college.
Charlene works full-time and is preparing to go to law school. Despite her hectic schedule, she also spends time with Candice. She has been a valuable resource to Candice and they will remain friends for life
