The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta is to transform the lives of children through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with caring, well trained volunteers.
Traditional Mentoring (CORE) Success Story
"When I was in high school, I was a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The program was only during the school year and I could only meet with my Little Sister during school hours. After our time together during the summer, she moved away. So, when I came to college at GA State, the United Way building was right across the street and I was afforded the opportunity again.
I didn't realize the possibilities of picking from such a vast number of children. After going through the paperwork, I am proud to say that after being matched in the Fall of 2002, I am still matched with the same Little. From middle school to high school and soon on to college, we are in this for the long haul.
My Little Sister, Desiree, and I are more than just two individuals in this program. We have developed a life-long relationship. When we mention our family or number of siblings, we each mention the other just as we would our flesh and blood. She calls herself the aunt of my son and her mother calls my son her grandson. Our relationship is not only with each other, it extends to each of our families. I am grateful to be a part of such a great program. Thanks!"
